Finding Direction In Life Through The Cross

What Is Necessary For

Anyone

To Go To Heaven?

The Bible Is God’s Word

The religions of the world have their sacred writings, but they are men’s words.  God used men to pen the words of the Bible we have today, but the Bible is not a mere collection of men’s writings.  The Bible tells us that, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (2 Timothy 3:16).  Here, God is clearly shown to be the Author of His word.  The men He used to pen the different books that make up the Bible were “inspired” by Him.  That means that, while the different men’s styles and personalities in writing are seen, the very words they wrote were the very words God wanted written.  So then, the Bible is the word of God without any error or contradiction.

God Is The Creator

Some teach that all that is on this planet and in all the vast depths of outer space came about by chance or accident.  But the Bible reveals that God is the Creator of all things.

  • In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1).

  • For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on the earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.  All things were created through Him and for Him.  And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist (Colossians 1:16-17).

But Who Is God?

Many people in the world claim to worship God.  It seems each country has its own version of who God is.  He is called by different names and given many abilities.  Some even say that we are all worshipping the same God, just calling Him by different names.  But the Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is God.  Jesus Himself said, "I and My Father are one" (John 10:30).  Jesus said, "...He who has seen Me has seen the Father..."  (John 14:9).  No other person in history has claimed to be God in the flesh and proven himself to be by powerfully teaching the truths of God's word, and performing miracles that could only be done by God's power.

Tell Me More About Jesus

The earliest followers of Jesus (later called apostles), were eyewitnesses to all that Jesus did and taught.  Several of them were used by God to write books in the Bible's New Testament.  There, the Bible clearly shows us that Jesus is holy.  For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15).  Peter tells us of God's command for us to be like Him, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy" (1 Peter 1:16).

Jesus Christ The Savior

Not only is Jesus described as holy, but also as the one and only Savior.

  • · Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6).

  • · For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God…(1 Peter 3:18).

And What Does The Bible Say About Me?

The Bible describes mankind as being born in sin.  Sin is willful disobedience of God’s commands.  According to the Bible you:

  • · Are “...dead in trespasses and sins…and [are] by nature [a child] of wrath” (Ephesians 2:1, 3).
  • · Have a heart that “is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9).

That is not to say there is not any good in anyone.  Nor that everyone is as bad as they can be.  But the Bible teaches that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), and that “the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), which is irrevocable, eternal separation from God.

But Now For The Good News

Because of God’s great love for mankind, His abundant mercy and His boundless grace, the Bible gives God’s provision for you.  But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).  Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6), “and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:37).  This salvation that Jesus offers to you is a free gift.  For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).

What It All Means

The Bible declares Jesus to be the Son of God, but it also declares Jesus to be the Lord over all creation.  The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all (Psalms 103:19), "Therefore let all...know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ" (Acts 2:36).  Because Jesus is Lord of all, and because of your own sinfulness before a holy God, there is action required of you.  The Bible says, that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).  "God...now commands all men everywhere to repent" (Acts 17:30).  To repent means to turn away from sin and turn to Jesus.  True repentance is demonstrated by obeying Jesus.  He said, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word" (John 14:23).

What Does The Future Hold?

The Bible clearly states that all who reject Jesus as their Lord and Savior will face Him one day as their Judge:  "God...now commands all men everywhere to repent, "because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead (Acts 17:30-31).  When the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.  These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9).

What Do I Do Now?

If God has shown you your need, and given you the desire to be saved, then turn to Jesus now!  Pray to Him, confessing (which means to agree with God) that you are a guilty, lost and helpless sinner, and with all your heart repent of your sin and believe in Him alone to save you, enabling you to turn from sin and to live for Him.  The Bible says that, if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9) and that “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).  If you truly trust in Jesus Christ alone as your Savior and acknowledge Him as your Lord, you can claim these promises as your own.  How will you respond?
